Location: Ridgefield, CT (Hybrid / On-site preferred) - Flexible work from home days

Salary Range: depends on experience and level of role: $140K - $199K + potential bonus


Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Data Architect to design, build, and modernize enterprise data platforms in the cloud. This role will lead data architecture initiatives focused on business intelligence, data management, and cloud modernization, including migrations from on-premise environments to AWS.

The ideal candidate must have deep experience in pharma, biotech, healthcare, or consulting for these industries, with a strong understanding of commercial data domains and regulated environments. You will define scalable cloud data architectures, build robust data models, and collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders to deliver high-quality, governed, and analytics-ready data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Data Architecture & Modernization

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and efficient cloud data architectures on AWS.
  • Lead cloud modernization initiatives, including migrations from on-premise systems to the cloud.
  • Define architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for enterprise data platforms.


Data Modeling & Data Management

  • Develop logical and physical data models to support analytics, reporting, and operational use cases.
  • Design database schemas and data storage strategies for structured and unstructured data.
  • Optimize database performance and ensure high data quality and reliability.


Business Intelligence Enablement

  • Support business intelligence and analytics initiatives through well-designed data platforms and semantic layers.
  • Enable self-service analytics through curated datasets and governed data models.


Data Governance & Collaboration

  • Partner with data domain owners to establish data governance, data sharing, and data quality policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement solutions.


Data Pipelines & Integration

  • Design and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and enrichment of structured and unstructured data.
  • Build and manage ETL / ELT solutions using modern tools and cloud-native services.


Architecture Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and analysts.
  • Drive architectural innovation and continuously improve data platform capabilities.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and best practices in data management and cloud architecture.


Required Qualifications

Industry Experience (Required)

  • 5+ years of experience in pharma commercial data domains. Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or healthcare consulting environments
  • Experience in business intelligence and data management, including Data Architect roles
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with cloud solutions (AWS)
  • Proven experience leading at least one large-scale cloud modernization or on-prem-to-cloud migration initiative
  • Familiarity with GxP processes is a strong plus
  • AWS Cloud (required) – including services such as S3, Glue, and serverless data components
  • Data Modeling – logical, physical, and dimensional modeling
  • Business Intelligence & Data Warehousing
  • ETL / ELT Tools – DBT, SnapLogic, middleware solutions
  • Databases – SQL and NoSQL platforms
  • Snowflake, Apache Parquet
  • Data Pipeline Design & Optimization
  • Semantic Data Models & Knowledge Graphs – ontologies, taxonomies, AI data pipelines (NLP, recommendations, predictive analytics)


Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Solutions Architect certification
  • Experience with Innovator
  • Experience with AI / ML data pipelines
  • Experience in regulated environments (GxP, HIPAA)
  • Strong analytical, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Ability to design and confidently defend complex architectures
  • Experience working in agile delivery models
  • Willingness to travel as needed
